Tools your students can hold.

The systems in the book were built by a teacher, for a real room, on a real timetable. These are the same materials, ready to use.

Start with one protocol, not the whole framework.

Pick a single thing. Run it every day for two weeks. That is how it worked in Room E-5 too.

The principle behind all of it

Introduce one new complexity at a time. Keep the content simple while students learn the system.

Once the system becomes automatic, the complexity of the content can grow. The thinking process stays exactly the same. That is why a fable in September and a novel in May can be analyzed with the same five moves.

It is also why the work travels. Students carried these systems into science, social studies, chemistry, and high school English, often years after they left the room.

What students say afterwards

The point is that they outgrow the scaffolding.

None of them mention a worksheet. They mention being able to start writing without freezing.

TBEAR has helped me be able to write all that's on my mind and making it make sense to the readers. Because of TBEAR and the method you taught us, I am able to write essays and prompts without any struggle or writer's block.

TBEAR and SMM has helped me greatly throughout my high school English classes as well as my chemistry class. TBEAR has made me achieve many goals in writing that I thought I would never conquer.

Out of all the teachers I had experience with, none of them went into as much depth into writing as Mrs. Martinez did. Seeing how quick and easy it was to write made me realize how much I've grown. I still use what Mrs. Martinez has taught me to this very day.
